Seren closed his eyes as hundreds of memories came flooding over him. "Yes to both." He replied calmly nothing betraying the wash of images that flooded through him. The memory of years of carefully applied torture roaring back over him. He sheathed his sword and lay down his eyes scanning the heavens above him as if taking refuge among the clouds. "For a long time," he said slowly. "I didn't know the sky existed." His face remained expressionless as always but inside the all too familiar hate that fueled his life roared and screamed and clawed at him.

A small twitch her lips curled over that strong facade as Sarai's own gaze tilted to look up at the sky as well. Sighing softly those eyes would watch the birds soaring past them, and the sun gently caressing her skin with it's warmth. Eyes closed as her voice seemed gentle like the wind blowing through the reeds by a river. "The sky is there." That was all she said, four simple words of reassurance, as her eyes flickered open to glance down at him.
"And it will always be there, no matter how unstable your life can get, and will get, that is one thing that will never change." Taking a seat on a stump right beside where Seren sat, Sarai could feel the dying beat of the tree. Closing her eyes again, she allowed the tree to feel her calming energy, urging it's last beats of life on this world to cease.

Seren listened as she spoke but didn't respond. The sky had been there before too, but he hadn't known it. Who was to say that he wouldn't lose it again? That he wouldn't sink that low again? He was capable of it, he knew that. The man sat up his eyes scanning the woods around them his hands relaxed at his side. He laid his hand on the dead tree next to him then turned to Sarai "I'm sorry." He said simply. "Did this tree have someone like you connected to it?"

This Dryad couldn't imagine a life without the sky above her, it seemed so absurd. The sky had been her reassurance that the world was still there, if it went away she would know life was over as well. Watching how gently his hand touched the dead tree gave him a whole new respect. He didn't touch the tree with such anger, and evil like he did with the sword, but with compassion, and even sympathy. Sarai was amazed at his change of personality from the first time she had met him. Then again, Dryads naturally had that calming, and soothing aura about them. When he asked about the tree having another being like herself, Sarai stared at his hand for a long time before following the hand up the arm to look at the man whom owned the hand.
"All the trees have someone connected to them. Trees give you life, they're the creatures who give you shelter from the rain, and shade from the sun. They're the ones that can quench a hunger, or console you through your sorrow. All the trees belong to someone.... even if they don't know it." Sliding off the stump, Sarai knelt down right next to Seren, pressing her cheek up against the trunk of the tree, hands gently tracing over the cool bark.
Thos silver eyes looked up at him, as she spoke once more. "Even you have a tree..."

Seren looked over as the Dryad sat next to him. He definately did feel different when he was around her. The world almost made sense, or at least the parts that didn't make sense were easier to ignore. Her eyes met his and as she spoke the final words Seren's eyes glinted slightly. "Can you show me?"

When he asked if she could show him his tree, Sarai shook her head. "No, I cannot..." Voice trailed off for a moment, as the wind blew through the piles of logs, almost like a message being sent around the breeze. Head tilted up to catch the breeze through her hair, the cool air hitting her face. "...but, I can help you find it."
((sorry, that was a short post. please dun hurt me.))

She said no and Seren felt an odd sadness take him. He didn't know why necessarily but he had wanted to see it, perhaps as some way of knowing himself better. He had never had a past, never wanted a past never really wanted to look at who he was he had just... existed. Now that wasn't enough. Her next words gave him hope. "Will you?" He asked her.

Climbing to her feet, gaze took the skies again, just that reassurance that it was still there. An elegant, yet strong hand was held down to help him up. "Yes, I will." Nodding slowly, hawks were all ready soaring past them, as if they knew of this 'alliance', and this mission, they were heading out to help as well.
"Where are you from, Seren?" A brow would arch in question, as she was all ready moving back towards the forest.

Seren took her hand and felt that same odd sense of warmth. Like a weight had been lifted off of him, like for a little while the rest of the world didn't seem to matter. It occured to him that he didn't really want to let go but he only entertained the thought for a split second and released the hand as soon as he was standing. The next thought that occurred to him was that he had never held hands with anyone before, not even briefly the people who had raised him weren't exactly the loving sort. The feeling was quickly gone though and the two were moving into the forest again. "I don't know." he responded to her question. "My parents were killed when I was a child, I was held in Tashbaan until I escaped a year past." He said this casually, as if it was perfectly normal, after all no one had ever told him it wasn't. "I like hawks you know," he said using the same casual tone as he watched the birds fly over them. "Nothing holds them down, nothing to pull them in. They are free." They walked for a while after this until Seren asked. "Have you any family Sarai?"

Again, there was such a difference in them. Sarai didn't feel that warmth that Seren did. No. All she felt was the weight of helping him up, and then the release. Perhaps the feelings that Seren were feeling, Sarai was able to suppress, after all the Dryad didn't show emotion, never those extreme elations, or desparities. Sarai almost seemed like a blank slate most of the time.
As they began to move into the forest, Sarai's steps were soundless, like shadows shifting through the brush her movement was graceful over the uneven terrain. Looking up to the canopy of trees, a tiny twitch of her lips curled upwards as the hawks continued to weave through the branches, and soar through the sky. "Hawks have their own vices, they are not free. Their dedication to the skies is vigilant. That is what keeps them reeled in." The branches above them billowed through the wind, the same wind that kept the hawks aloft in the sky. When Seren asked about her family, gaze pulled away from the sky to look directly at the man.
"Yes..." For once her face brightened at the thought of her family, glancing around the trees seemed to be dancing with the wind, as animals darting about the floor, even the birds began sing such sweet melodies into the air. "My family is all around you... trees, the ground you tred on, the birds, and wind, the water... they are all my relatives. Earth is my mother..." Technically, it's true. When Narnia was first created, Mother Earth created Dryads to watch over her gardens of trees, and guard her land.

Seren felt the forest respond to Sarai, it was an odd thought he supposed but as Seren had never known a family the idea of having nature for one was no less difficult to swallow for him. They continued walking for a while, silence had fallen in the forest and now night began to come with it. Serens eyes adjusted to the dark easily, seeming to glow with an eerie silver light as they walked. Seren was content for the moment to follow the Dryad and consider his own thoughts. He supposed he should have been worried about betrayal or an ambush or something but this Dryad it seemed was his last connection to anything human in him if she betrayed him fighting his way out of whatever she sprung upon him would be easy. Just give in to the monster. Seren's mind continued to return to what she had said about the hawks and he gave a thoughtful expression to the sky. It seemed in this world nothing was truly free. His brow knit and his focus changed from the sky to the ground, he supposed it was true enough. They were all bound to something, all held down by their own weights and responsibilities. No one was free. Another lesson learned.
